Genital Cosmetic Surgery (Vaginal Cosmetic)

This involves tightening the vagina through the removal of excess tissue resulting from giving birth or lack of connective tissue elasticity. Complaints are generally seen in women who have had at least one normal vaginal delivery. The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia, though it can be done under epidural anesthesia. Depending on the nature of the procedure, the operation generally takes 15-30 minutes, and patients can resume their normal lives within a few days. Sexual activity can be resumed one month after surgery.

The labia majora or outer lips may sometimes be longer than normal. The labia can be reduced to normal size with cosmetic surgery. Correction of the labia through surgery is known as labiaplasty.

Similarly, asymmetrical lips may have a damaging psychological and functional impact on the individual's sex life, and labiaplasty may again be required. Fat tissue in the organs in the genital region may decrease as part of the ageing process. This condition particularly manifests itself in the elevated and hirsute area immediately under the pelvis known as the mons pubis. Thinning for various reasons may also be seen in the labia (lip regions).

In cases such as these, the external appearance can be improved by a quantity of fat tissue taken from another region of the body using a procedure similar to liposuction being injected into these areas (filling operations). In the reverse procedure, removal of excess fatty tissue in these regions can also improve esthetic appearance.
